DC Taxicab Commission Postpones the Adoption of Rules to Require Acceptance of Non-Cash Payments

Thursday, January 24, 2013
Action delayed until January 30.

The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) today postponed action to adopt regulations to require all DC taxicabs to accept non-cash payments due to the lack of a quorum. The matter will be considered at the Special Commission Meeting scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at One Judiciary Square in the Old Council Chambers. The delay in consideration of this emergency rulemaking will necessitate DCTC to revise the planned March 30, 2013 deadline for implementation.

Other items on the agenda at the Special Commission Meeting will include consideration of proposed rulemaking for Dispatch and Sedan Vehicles; and action to consider publishing final rulemakings regarding the Special Event Vehicle for Hire Permits, dome light requirements and the suspension of vehicle retirement pending implementation of the uniform color scheme.

The proposed color vehicle exhibit will resume during the DC Auto Show at the Washington Convention Center from Friday, February 1, 2013 through Sunday, February 10, 2013. Property managers Jones Lang LaSalle rescinded an agreement with the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation to display the vehicles outside of Union Station requiring DCTC to cancel their plans to exhibit there in January.

DCTC’s One-Color Panel will also hold two public meetings: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Southeast Neighborhood Library, 403 7th Street, SE in the SOE Meeting Room; and Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Capitol View Library, 5001 Central Avenue, SE in the CAV Meeting Room.
