DC Taxicab Commission to Begin Accepting New Vehicle Registrations

Wednesday, September 26, 2012
Existing companies can add or make equipment changes.

(Washington, DC) – The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) announced that existing taxicab and limousine companies will be able to register new vehicles starting on October 15, 2012. In addition to adding vehicles to their fleet, companies will be able to make equipment changes provided the vehicle registration, tags and insurance are valid.

“The Commission has completed our review of taxicab and limousine companies and listened to operators who asked to increase their fleets,” DCTC Chairman Ron M. Linton said. “We want to encourage existing companies to acquire modern vehicles in order to provide a more pleasant and comfortable trip for passengers.”

The new registrations are limited to existing companies that are defined as having not less than 20 vehicles under common management. The Commission will continue the suspension of issuing new independent taxicab vehicle numbers.

Taxicab and limousine companies that have 20 or more vehicles must provide DCTC with an electronic copy of their vehicle list report. It can be sent to: [email protected]. The signature of the taxicab or limousine company officer on the One Stop Form will be required for vehicles affiliated with that company.

“Public vehicle-for-hire operators are preparing for the holidays and the upcoming Presidential Inauguration,” added Chairman Linton. “We see this as a positive indication for the industry and local economy.”
