Today the DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) advised Gleike that the company’s Certificate of Operating Authority as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) will be suspended. The failure of Gleike to meet DCTC regulations include not making the required payments to their customers, the payment to the District of collected passenger surcharges and failing to provide required technical support to vehicle operators. Vehicle owners who are customers of Gleike are advised to immediately consult their contractual agreements and make arrangements to transition to other approved PSPs. Two approved PSPs - Creative Mobile Technologies and Transco – have agreed to waive the installation cost of new MTS units for former Gleike customers. Yellow Cab has also agreed to work with the operators affected by the Gleike shutdown to ensure a smooth and affordable transition.
DCTC wants Gleike’s customers to avoid being penalized for not having operational MTS units as Gleike winds down its operations. To avoid penalties during this brief period, owners must schedule appointments by Wednesday, January 22nd, for the purpose of installing new MTS equipment. Documentation of the appointment must be kept inside the vehicle at all times to avoid enforcement action.
The suspension was necessitated by Gleike’s refusal to honor an agreement it made with DCTC on January 10th to voluntarily surrender its Certificate of Operating Authority based on its numerous regulatory violations. The company continues to no longer meet DCTC’s regulatory requirements for PSPs. Gleike’s default on its passenger surcharge payments to the District may also result in DCTC’s exercising its authority to make a claim against the $50,000 bond posted by Gleike when it was approved as a PSP.
