DC Taxicab Commission to Issue Special Permit for Presidential Inauguration

Friday, November 30, 2012
The special permit applies to out-of-market vehicles for hire.

(Washington, DC) – The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) announced that it will issue a Special Permit for out-of-market Vehicles for Hire to use during the upcoming Presidential Inauguration. The Special Permit will be applicable from 5:00 pm on Friday, January 18, 2013 until 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Applications will be available online at www.dctaxi.dc.gov beginning Monday, December 3, 2012. The Special Permit fee is $150.00 per vehicle. The deadline to apply is Friday, January 4, 2013.

The increased demand for transportation services including the significant number of vehicles bringing visitors to town to attend Presidential Inaugural activities generates the need for an increased pool of limousines and sedans. This additional supply of vehicles for hire must be certified to meet a standard of legally sanctioned, officially authorized and reliable operation.

Applicants will need to provide a copy of their vehicle registration, proof of insurance and documentation that their vehicle is licensed or registered as a limousine or sedan in their home jurisdiction. The Special Permit pertains specifically to the vehicles of licensed operators not currently regulated by the DC Taxicab Commission. In addition, if the vehicle is a rental, a copy of the rental agreement must also be provided. Complete instructions are included with the online application.

“The Presidential Inauguration is a wonderful event unique and specific to the DC market,” DCTC Chairman Ron M. Linton said. “This event provides tremendous financial opportunities to be leveraged by vehicles for hire; however it is critically important that the Commission exercises its regulatory responsibility to ensure the numerous vehicles coming to the District from out of the market are registered and insured in order to protect the consumer.”
