Taxicab Commission Invites Industry Experts, Public to Community Meetings

Thursday, May 18, 2006
Discussions will include changes to the taxicab system
Contact: Gordon A. White (202) 274-7126

The District of Columbia Taxicab Commission will host a series of community meetings with a panel of industry experts to address proposed changes to the taxicab system.

Currently, the District of Columbia is engaged in an experiment that compares the use of time and distance meters to the zone system. The Taxicab Commission is looking for public comments on this experiment and other problems that plague the system; including taxicab cleanliness, driver behavior, driver dress, refusals to haul and vehicle vintage. Community participation at these meetings will help reshape the taxicab system over the next five years.

Meeting dates, times and locations are as follows:

Column Title Column Title Column Title
May 23  7 to 9 pm  2100 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE-Community Room/Ward 8
June 1 7 to 9 pm  Hillcrest Community Center/Ward 7
