Program to aid communities with transportation services needs

Media Contact: Neville Waters (202) 645-6020; [email protected]

The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) announced today that ten retired taxis with wheelchair lifts will be made available to qualified nonprofit organizations serving District residents.

Owners of retired taxis in working condition are encouraged to give back to the community by donating retired vehicles. Interested nonprofits or donors are encouraged to register with DCTC to be included in the program.

The local nonprofit organizations must provide confirmation of their IRS 501(c) (3) status, along with a brief narrative explaining the proposed use of the donated vehicle.

Registration applications for nonprofits to participate in the program are available below.

All taxicab owners required to replace their older vehicles under the DCTC’s regulations are encouraged to donate their vehicles to qualified nonprofit organizations. In addition to the tax benefits they receive, owners will be helping to provide transportation services to those in need of service in underserved areas of the city.
