For-Hire Operators (Face ID) License
A For-Hire Operators (Face ID) License allows a person to operate a Taxicab, or Limousine.
For your convenience you can now apply both in-person or online.
Before Applying
Interested for-hire applicants should note the following:
Licensing Fees:
- New Taxi Face ID: $125 (1 year)
- Renewal Taxi Face ID: $250 (2 years)
- New Limousine Face ID: $150 (1 year)
- Renewal Limousine Face ID: $300 (2 years)
- New Taxi/Limo Face ID: $275 (1 year)
- Renewal Taxi/Limo: Face ID $550 (2 years)
- Not for Hire License: $100
- Cash will not be accepted; we accept credit and debit card payments only.
Identification Requirements:
- A valid driver’s license (Must be a DC metropolitan area resident for at least one year)
- A valid Social Security card (original card, no copies)
- Proof of citizenship (must have proof of residency & authorization to work)
How to Apply
Online Applicants
You can now apply online! Select the link below to register. Once registered you will receive a confirmation email detailing the following steps:
- Registration & Portal Access - Online For – Hire Operators (Face ID) License
- Exam & Fingerprinting
- Submission of Application and required documents.
- Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email with a payment link.
- Issuance of New For-Hire Operators (Face ID) License
In-Person Applicants
In-Person applicants should report to the DFHV, with the following after completing the For-Hire Operators Exam (linked below) & FBI Background Investigation:
- Application for New For-Hire (Face ID) Operators License (fully completed) with required documents.
- Two (2) full-faced color passport photographs with white background.
- Applicable licensing fee.
Please Note: Upon successful completion of the exam, applicants will receive notification with FBI Background Investigation scheduling instructions.

Issuance of For Hire Operators (Face ID) License is contingent upon successful completion of exam, favorable FBI Background investigation, and approved application with all the requirements.
