As a part of the Bowser Administration’s Vision Zero safety initiative, the Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) is proud to announce the grant award recipients of the Driver Education and Reward Program. This program is the result of a partnership between DFHV and District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to recognize drivers that exhibited the highest safety records while operating taxicabs in the District of Columbia.

The award recipients of the Vision Zero Driver Education and Reward Program are:

  • Samson Abraham - Capitol Cab
  • Israr Ahmad - Bay Cab
  • Gurmail Darhele - Capitol Cab
  • Faisal Nawaz - Capitol Cab
  • Michael Yitbarek - UVC

Each recipient received a one-time $1,000 award. The award recipients have demonstrated safe driving habits and had the highest scores based on the Zendrive technology used to measure driving behaviors during the period of March 1, 2018 to April 30, 2018.

The Vision Zero safety initiative seeks to achieve zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the District by the year 2024 through better engineering of roadways, more effective education efforts, smarter use of data and safety analysis, and the enforcement of laws. The major themes of the initiative include: 1) Create Safe Streets; 2) Protect Vulnerable Users; 3) Prevent Dangerous Driving; and 4) Be Transparent and Responsive.
