Presidential Inauguration Impacts Transportation Operations

Monday, January 28, 2013
DC Taxicab Commission responds to help with traffic flow.

The Enforcement Division of the DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) worked in participation with other agencies (DDOT, MPD, HSEMA) to ensure transportation functioned smoothly around specific high-traffic areas during the Presidential Inauguration. The efforts of the DCTC Hack Inspectors to ensure taxis were available while preventing illegal taxi operations resulted in 132 Notices of Infraction being issued and 26 vehicles impounded.

The eight DCTC Hack Inspectors who worked two 12-hour overtime shifts maintained diligent oversight around the Shared Ride venues of the Washington Convention Center, the National Building Museum and RFK Stadium. This visible display enabled the orderly dispatch of taxis, deterred improper street hails and had taxis and sedans that were operating illegally impounded.

As an added element to help with transportation, the Driver Services Office of DCTC issued 1,460 Special Event Permits to allow out-of-market limousines to operate in the District during the Presidential Inaugural Weekend.

Several companies including Napoleon Sedan & Tours, US Sedan Service and Rock Creek Limousine sent written messages of acknowledgement for the excellent customer service they received that allowed them to obtain Special Event Permits. One letter specifically noted that resolving his last minute inquiry was the most amazing treatment received in 12 years of working with DCTC.
