New Approval Process for Taxi Vehicle Registration

Beginning July 1, DC taxicab operators seeking vehicle registration and tags or new vehicle registration and tags will be required to get an approved application from the DC Taxicab Commission before going to the Department of Motor Vehicles for their vehicle registration, the DCTC announced today.

In a new cooperative arrangement between the two agencies designed to assure that information each agency receives is identical and that the records of license plates issued can be reconciled by the two agencies, DMV will not grant renewals or new plates unless the applicant has an approved One Stop Form application from DCTC.

Taxicab vehicle owners or their agents will be able to complete the One Stop Form on line or at DCTC offices. The One Stop Form requires certified personal, vehicle, and insurance information.

The new agreement was reached in order to eliminate discrepancies in the number of vehicles licensed and inconsistent information in the records of the two agencies.
