The Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) is excited to announce the Open Season for owners to choose from among the first approved Digital Taxicab Solution (DTS) Providers. DTS replaces the analog dashboard-mounted meters with digital taximeter apps. The approved DTS Providers have applied and undergone a careful review process that included pilot testing to ensure real-world functionality.
DTS moves the District’s taxi industry swiftly forward, to allow it to compete on a more level playing field with other vehicles-for-hire. DTS will enable lower costs for owners and drivers and offer new features for passengers. Each approved DTS combines the Provider’s choice of a digital meter app and a payment processor. Providers had to select either: the DFHV-meter app; or another meter app, plus payment processor willing to meet or beat the 2.75% target rate for processing fees.
Owners are not required to use any particular approved DTS Provider, and may choose freely among them regardless of which meter app or payment processor they offer. Owners should carefully evaluate the prices and terms offered by the Providers to find the DTS that best fits their business needs. DFHV encourages owners to not wait until the August 31, 2017 deadline to make a choice, in order to avoid causing a rush on DTS installers.

All District taxicabs must choose a DTS Provider in order to operate after the August 31, 2017 deadline for installation.
NOTE - As of October 27, 2017, DFHV has extended the deadline for the DTS transition and MTS phase out to December 31, 2017.
