DC Taxicab Commission Reaches Agreement With Hitch

Wednesday, October 2, 2013
DCTC allows Hitch to continue operations as company overcomes deficiencies

Contact: Neville Waters (202) 645-6020

The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) today extended its agreement with Hitch that allows the company to continue to operate provided it corrects a number of deficiencies related to the performance requirements to serve as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) by October 5, 2013. Hitch was previously served with a notice of intent to suspend when DCTC became aware that the company was not meeting its responsibilities.

The requirements that Hitch must fulfill include completing the installation of the Modern Taximeter System (MTS) in those vehicles already contracted prior to accepting any new customers. Hitch must make payments to taxi drivers by Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 5:00 pm to get their Accounts Payable current.

Any vehicle owner that has signed with Hitch and not yet had the MTS installation completed is free to seek another PSP. There are five PSPs with capacity to install MTS: Creative Mobile Technologies; DCVIP; Gleike; Transco; United Ventures Consortium.  However, there is no extension of the September 30, 2013 deadline to have the MTS installed. Vehicles found operating without an MTS unit will be subject to impoundment.
