DC Taxicab Commission to Publish Proposed Rules for the Uniform Taxi Color Design

Wednesday, May 1, 2013
Public Hearing to be held May 29

Contact: Neville Waters, Phone: (202) 645-6020

The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) today voted to publish proposed rulemaking regarding the uniform taxi color scheme as mandated by the Taxicab Service Improvement Act of 2012. The design includes a gray stripe on the side of a red vehicle in a similar manner to the DC Circulator.

The Commission also voted today to republish rulemaking pertaining to Sedan class vehicles and digital dispatch service companies. Both proposed regulations for the color design and sedan class and digital dispatch service providers are subject to a 30-day comment period following their publication in the DC Registry.

A Public Hearing about the uniform taxi color design is scheduled for May 29, 2013 at 10 am at 441 4th Street, NW in the Old Council Chambers on the First Floor. Anyone who wants to testify must register by calling (202) 645-6018 extension 4. A written version of the participant’s testimony must be submitted to DCTC 48 hours prior to the hearing.

Once the regulatory process is completed which includes reviewing all feedback, the Commission will determine if the uniform color design rulemaking should be adopted as final. Once the regulation is effective the color design will be phased in as taxis are replaced due to age and mileage limits; or if during inspection by the Department of Motor Vehicles a taxi is required to be repainted.
