MEDIA CONTACT: Neville Waters 202.645.6020; [email protected]

The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) is giving another opportunity for taxicab owners to download $200 vouchers as an incentive to paint their vehicles in the new uniform color design. A limited number of vouchers will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis to all DC taxi owners now until August 8, 2014. All vouchers still must be redeemed by September 15, 2014.

All owners seeking to redeem their vouchers must adhere to the guidelines to submit to DCTC a copy of their paid invoice, two pictures of their vehicle in the uniform color design and the paint shop sign off on the voucher to qualify for the $200. Payments will be made by the DC Treasurer within 6 to 8 weeks of submission of appropriate documents.

Paint shops should contact DCTC Driver Services to receive a copy of the CAD drawings in order to ensure design specifications are met. If the vehicle fails DMV inspection, the vehicle owner is responsible for costs associated with re-painting.

The transition to the uniform taxi color scheme which is a similar to the District’s other forms of public transportation - Metrobus and the Circulator – has steadily increased since this incentive program was implemented.  DCTC has determined that over 2,000 of the active DC taxis have already been painted.

The vouchers and instructions are available to download at http://dctaxi.dc.gov/page/uniform-taxicab-color-design-incentive-program.
