DC Taxicab Commission Commends Action Taken by Metropolitan Police Department

MPD detains suspects in DC taxicab robberies

The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) for itself and on behalf of the local taxicab industry thanks the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and commends their outstanding work to aggressively pursue and arrest the suspects in a series of taxicab robberies.

Recently, MPD officers in the Third District arrested a person who had allegedly robbed taxi drivers over the course of several days in the Adams Morgan area and are attempting to link the subject to prior taxi robberies.

Vice Officers in the Seventh District used excellent detective skills to arrest an individual suspected of attempted robbery of a driver in Southeast. The officers had to maneuver through several apartment buildings before locating the suspect hiding at the top of a stairway.

“We are delighted with the efforts of the MPD officers to reduce crimes against taxi drivers,” said DCTC Chairman Ron M. Linton. “It is important to enhance the safety of both drivers and their passengers.”

DCTC will continue to work in close collaboration with MPD to curtail crimes and aid in the apprehension of suspects. It is critical for the security of the taxi industry that these dangerous individuals who commit crimes against drivers are arrested to prevent further harm and possible bodily injuries.

In addition to serving as vital providers of transportation services for many residents, taxis also serve as a key face of the city’s hospitality industry to our many visitors. The upcoming Presidential Inauguration is an opportunity to showcase the value of DC public vehicles for hire.
