The Chairperson of the District of Columbia Taxicab Commission (“Commission”) took emergency action on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 to rescind the current $1 per trip gasoline surcharge. The rescission of the surcharge, which is effective at 12:01 am, Thursday, December 4, 2008, is due to the continued decline in gasoline prices.

According to Commission Chairman, Leon J. Swain, Jr., taxicabs are required to remove the current Gasoline Surcharge Sticker and post this Notice in each taxicab vehicle. Chairman Swain also emphasized that this Notice will be widely distributed to the media and each taxicab company. This Notice will also be directly provided to drivers on the streets by the Commission’s hack inspectors.

The Commission’s Panel on Rates and Rules will convene on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at 10 am at the Commission’s Offices, 2041 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. SE, 2nd Floor, Hearing Room, to consider further course of action.
