The fare cap is abolished effective October 21, 2011.
Effective October 21, 2011, the $19 maximum taxicab fare cap is abolished.
Rate 2 shall apply for all taxi rides in the District of Columbia.

Due to rising gas costs, an Emergency Fuel Surcharge will take effect at 12 am on April 29, 2026, until August 26, 2026.
A flat $1.00 will be added to all metered taxicab trips.
