Union Station Fast Pass Program for Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Service

Monday, October 28, 2019
Top WAV Operators Can Get Priority Access at Union Station

This service is currently suspended during the District of Columbia Government’s public health emergency.

The Department of For- Hire Vehicles (DFHV) launched a pilot program intended to increase the number of wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) in service for residents and support accessibility for visitors to the District. Beginning October 28, 2019, top performing taxicab drivers with WAVs will be given a Union Station Fast Pass to allow for priority entry to the front of the popular taxi line at Union Station.

The objective of the Union Station Fast Pass Pilot Program is to reward drivers who transport passengers in WAVs, incentivize operators to increase the availability of WAV service, and provide additional income opportunities. Each month, DFHV will review WAV trip logs of drivers providing transportation service to Transport DC participants. The top performing drivers based on those logs will qualify for the Union Station Fast Pass. The pass will be valid for one month. The pilot program will run for six months. During this period, DFHV will monitor the program to evaluate the potential for expansion and DFHV inspection officers will assist with managing the traffic flow for the new priority lane.

Complete details regarding the Union Station Fast Pass are available at Administrative Issuance AI-2019-06.
