DFHV Director Ernest Chrappah Named International Regulator of the Year

Wednesday, October 11, 2017
Selection Based on Professionalism, Customer Service, and Innovation

The International Association of Transportation Regulators (IATR) named Ernest Chrappah, the Director of the Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV), the “Regulator of the Year” on September 26, 2017, at their 30th Annual Conference in Austin, Texas.

The selection of Director Chrappah was determined by government transportation professional peers for his focus on public service, leadership for implementing reforms and the innovative approach to regulating the for-hire industry. These characteristics are reflected by increasing public engagement through various platforms, data transparency, leveraging technology and research, and the establishment of customer service standards.

The creation of the micro transit taxi shuttle service for underserved areas of the city and night time economy workers was cited by the IATR announcement among the reasons for this award. Also, Director Chrappah has further advanced the modernization of the DC taxi fleet by introducing digital meter apps to improve the riding experience for riders and help drivers access expanded business opportunities.

I am both honored and humbled to receive this award. However, this is not just about my accomplishment as much as an indication of the support of Mayor Bowser and the diligence of the DFHV staff,” said DFHV Director Ernest Chrappah.

DFHV recently produced a video to display and reinforce the brand image for the agency and the industry. View it here.
