The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) announces a pilot program in partnership with online ordering platform delivery.com to offer consumers expanded access to on-demand delivery of food, laundry, and other goods and services.

The soft launch of the program will initially focus on lunch-hour food delivery in select areas. The pilot will then expand to include more merchants and a broader range of service hours and coverage. To get the service, simply open the delivery.com mobile app or go to their website and place your order from a participating restaurant. Behind the scenes, your meal is prepared while the closest available driver is dispatched to fulfill the delivery. This seamless transaction is made possible by the technology integration between the systems of the DC taxis and delivery.com.

“It’s exciting to unlock greater value in taxis and vehicles for hire,” DCTC Chairman Ernest Chrappah said. “This program is truly a win-win for the District. It gives licensed drivers another income stream when a fare is not available and allows us to improve customer services for more visitors and residents across all 8 Wards.”

“It’s great to see DCTC applying more innovation to evolve the taxi business,” says Jed Kleckner, CEO of delivery.com. “And it’s incredibly gratifying to know that our technology provides a gateway for the DC community — from the public sector to local merchants and consumers — to share in the benefits of the digital economy.”

The first restaurants included in the pilot include Bolt Burgers, Buredo, Capitol Hill Crab Cakes, Cheers at the Big Chair, Mayur Kabab, Merzi, and Tortino. Look for additional partnerships and services to follow creating even more economic opportunity for drivers and enhanced services for the district.

The announcement is part of innoMAYtion, Mayor Muriel Bowser’s month-long initiative showcasing DC’s innovation ecosystem and how ideas from local entrepreneurs are reshaping the District.
