The City Council required the DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC), now the Department of For-Hire Vehciles (DFHV) to establish a Disability Taxicab Advisory Committee, now referred to as the Accessibility Advisory Committee. The members of the Committee initially included representatives from specifically identified government agencies, the taxicab industry and the disability advocacy community. The mandate of the Committee is to review and advise DFHV on how to make for-hire vehicle service in the District more accessible for individuals with disabilities. The Committee is tasked with producing an initial comprehensive report and an annual report thereafter, to the Mayor and to the City Council on the accessibility of for-hire vehicle service in the District and how it can be further improved. The Committee considers the need for access to all for-hire vehicle service in the District, including taxis and transportation network companies, for people with disabilities and older adults.
The Department of For-Hire Vehicles Accessibility Advisory Committee (DFHV-AAC) is soliciting applications from qualified individuals interested in filling vacancies on its Accessibility Advisory Committee. There may be vacancies for the vehicle for-hire industry representatives, including members of the taxi industry, private operators (e.g., Uber, Lyft, Sidecar), and company or association representatives. In addition, there may be vacancies for advocates from the disability and older adult communities. Please refer to the membership application below for minimum qualifications.
The full committee meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 3:00-4:30pm at 441 4th St NW, 11th Floor. A photo ID is needed to enter the building. Please allow time to get through security. The meetings are open to the public, though closed to public participation in discussions and votes. Members of the public may make a 5 minute statement to the committee at the close of each meeting. Any person wishing to address the committee must contact the Chair or staff liaison one week prior to the meeting to indicate their interest.
